    Best Back workouts

Hey guys, i just have a quick question. I want to build some more muscle around my shoulder blades, what are some good workouts for that?

Does deadlift use much of the shoulder blades? or is it mostly the lower back it uses?

    thanks, ps2cho

deadlifts focus on lower back, but their an excellent compound exercise, and I beleive that they should be required first exercise for back. IMO

    around your shoulder blades:

    high rows
    pull ups
    reverse flys
    low rows

Muscles around your shoulders... do you mean traps? If so, Smith Machine Shrugs are the answer.

deadlift is really great for the shoulder blades since you have to focus on pulling them together to not round out your spine. Deadlifting heavy takes a good deal of rear delt, rhomboid and mid trap strength as well as pretty much every muscle in the body (lol).

other things for the upper back there are wide grip rows where your elbows are more flared out and not tucked in to your sides, reverse flyes either lying face down on an incline bench or with cables, or a reverse peck deck.

I thought the deadlift worked the upper back as well. Thanks for saying that P-funk. My brother maxed out on deadlifts yesterday and he could bring the weight up but his back was rounded. He has a very, very hard time keeping it straight so it's gonna be hard to train him. But once he gets it down pat he'll move up in weight quicker than he probably expects. He's one of those 'hard gainers' but I personally think he hasn't found the right routine yet. I'm just gonna have him try mine at first and see how it goes.

    Start rockclimbing.

Us climbers have nice back muscles..........but not bulky back muscles. Just super sick strong and defined. So maybe stick to weights. Yea...or something.

I'm seriously way too helpful sometimes.
