it is said that muscle maturity really doesn't begin until your late 30's. most elite powerlifters are also in the same age range.Originally Posted by alexvega

Like any sport if you wish to compete at a high level its best to start in your early teens. But for a life time ambition of physical fitness its good to start at any age.

I wish I knew what I know now back then.
you guys talk as if theres a mind body split, I think its called the.. i forgot what it called and im to lazy to look it up.
anyway, i prescribe to the biopsychosocial model, and therfore beleive that as we age, our bodies do become less responsive and efficient, however our knowledge grows and we overcome any diadvatages due to physical aging from our increased learning.
and as for the social aspect, just look at this website for the knowledge and motivation that we have and compare this to what people had 20 years ago.
therfore, theres no better age, just better perceptions!!!
I agree. Man, if only I started working the whole body back when instead of just chest and arms like the dumb kid I was... But I have to say, I'm still young. I'm definately glad I found this place; this forum is an awesome resource. As for the best age to start lifting, I'd say is 14 or 15, but not real heavy until maybe 16-18.Originally Posted by min0 lee
