Certified personal training?

Are any of you guys or girls certified personal trainers? Im not asking because im am questioning anything anyone has said but because i am thinking about becoming one and was wondering if it was a good job to have. Im almost 18 and am not looking for it to be my career for the rest of my life but a job i can have while going to school and maybe a side job for w/e i end up doing as an adult. After you become certified does it ever run out? What organization should you become certified from? What else would i need to know about the job?

sorry if this isnt exactly the kind of post that is supposed to be in this forum..but i thought that it would be ok

I am certified with NASM (probably going to take the NSCA-CSCS test this fall).

They need to be re-newed usually anywhere from every 2-5 years depending on the Cert.

It is a great job to have while going to school because you can make you own hours.

What you need to know about the job is that you need to know how to train people. Not people already in shape but people taht are complete train wrecks as they will make up most of your clientel. make sure you learn you physiology and be a smart trainer. the last thing anyone needs is a moron.

Thanks p-funk...i would like to ask a few more questions. How much will becoming certiffied teach me? I know a good bit about training and nutrition already (been training for a few years), but im young and relatively unexpereiced. So most of my clients will be extreme begginners...so will i only need to know basic routines and nutrtion information and if not, will the certification class deal teach me the rest? Is there any liability insurance that i would have to have? Any other comments/ questions are welcome.

Your cert will teach you basic physiology and most of them also have some sort of progresion based model that they follow that you will have to know.

Begginers? LOL! If I were only so lucky! You clients are going to be worse than just begginers. You need to know how to deal with many situations. Like a 50yr old lady that has never worked out or done anything in her life with arthritis in her knees and a herniated disk. Or someone that is fresh out of shoulder surgery. Or someone that is 80lbs over fat and never worked out before. etc...begginner is an understatment. Most of the clients you will encoutner have some serious health problems that you need to address.

The best bet is to get your cret. Find a gym. Get a job. Ask to shadow the best and most experienced trainer for a few weeks. Watch, learn and ask questions.

Sounds almost like a Physical Therapist. That's the field I'm most interested in right now.
