New routine
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to start a new routine and I have been contemplating doing full body workouts, low volume, 3 times a week. I have always done a typical 3-day split in the past. I'm worried that a full-body workout 3 times a week would be too much strain on the body. So I was wondering if it would make sense to split up my regular 3-day split so that, for instance, instead of having a chest day with 3 different chest exercises, I would do 1 chest exercise each day of my 3 days in the gym, and do the same for each body part. So in the past, my monday workout would be: 1. Bench press 3 x 8 2. Incline press 3 x8 3. Dips 4 x 8 4. Tri extensions 3 x 8 But with this new program, I would do exercise 1 and 4 on monday, exercise 2 on wednesday, and exercise 3 on wednesday. Likewise, I would split up my "normal" wednesday (legs/shoulders) and friday (back/biceps) workouts so that I would doing 1-2 exercises from each of these workouts on monday, wednesday, and friday. So essentially, I would be doing somewhat of a full-body workout every day, but it would not be the same workout every day and every muscle group would not be hit every day (although some would). Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a routine like this or has tried anything similar. Thanks very much for the help. Luke |

I'm actually just a fan of doing each muscle group one times per week, then if I feel I slacked on one I'll hit it again a couple days later.
Why do you feel like you want to do full body workouts? Perhaps they'll benefit you, but on the other hand, the real growing occurs during the rest periods... and even more so when you've really hit your muscles hard. I guess I'm just tring to figure out what you're trying to accomplish with a 3x a week full body workout. btw, there are plenty of ways to change up your current workout. I suggest GPs program, it should be on the board somewhere. Anyways, if you want to give it a try go for it of course. I doubt it'll ruin you I'd recommend something with longer breaks inbetween working muscle groups again so they have time to recouperate fully. |

i'm a fan of full body workouts. they are some of the toughest workouts i've ever done. what are you trying to accomplish with this new program? for hypertrophy you can throw a full body workout together fairly easily, you can try looking at HST (hyypertrophy-specific.com is the website i believe). if you are looking for a strength routine, check out my journal and P-funk's past journals in the journal section, lots of ideas over there for dual factor hypertrophy training aka training for strength and hypertrophy simultaneously.
