Yes its true, alot of injuries are cause by improper warmup so doing a little cardio goes a long way.
I would leave regular cardio to AFTER your workout or better yet on a non lifting day though.
I was just wondering if you guys do a short cardio session like for 5-10 minutes before you lift? I have read in many magazines and read several articles where it will say to jog lightly for 5 minutes or so to get the blood flowing and to warm up your muscles. They say it will also help prevent injury. Does anyone here do that?

Light cardio for 5-7 minutes should always be done before you stretch and start your workout. Some days when I don`t feel like a workout I just jump on the treadmill and after 6-7 minutes I`m warmed up and ready to go.
It is a good habit to do the treadmill for 5 to 10 minutes or longer depending on your surrounding temperature at a moderate pace before every workout. In doing so you know that your muscles are warmed up enough to handle an intense workout. Along with that be sure to warm up with at least 50% of the weight you intend to workout with to ensure proper stretch.![]()
5 - 7 minutes of a light warm up will do it for me, though I never lift without this warmup. Think "Fitness for life" has a good idea to lift at least 50% of weight in warmups.![]()

I do 5 minutes on the elliptical then strech before I hit the weights.
Never have warmed up with light weight before a set, might be a good idea though.
