    Question Amateur Strongman Competitions

I was just curious as to whether anyone knows if amateur strongman competitions for teens exist, and if so, if there's a site I can go to that states what's done in the competition. Not that I think I would do all that well, but I think it would be a lot of fun to do something like this, or at least go and watch. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.

Also, does anyone know where I can find teen powerlifting records (preferably raw)? I was just curious where I stand and I was thinking about going to some sort of powerlifting meet or even entering in a local one. I just can't seem to find much information about teen lifting and strongman stuff. Even looking at supposed state records, they don't seem to be very accurate (I can do much more than the record holders, I don't think that's anywhere near correct), so I need a site with accurate records if anyone knows one. Thanks again.

Dont know where to find PL records, but a contest site for strongman is www.nastrongman.com You'll find that the strongman scene is much more supportive of the young athaletes than any BB stage. You wouldnt do too well in the amateur class with those numbers, but I have no idea what the teen division is like. The only way to get better, is to train the events, and go to contests.. so hit it up!

Thanks for the post. I decided to email the webmaster and ask about teenaged competitions since I didn't see anything about them on there. I know I won't do that well, but at least I can do a farmers' walk with 220 for about 20 yards. That keeps improving, too, and I'd like to try the other exercises they do because I love how that one feels.

I suppose I should also note that all my stats are completely raw, and I'm assuming that in meets and records the competitors would be geared.

Thanks. I knew it would be something obvious, as is always the case when I miss something.

I bought extra 25 lb plates so I could just keep loading up the DBs. I also use BB weights on them when necessary.

There are no listed amateur competitions.. because most of those ARE amateur. The only one you have to qualify for are the Pro AM's..

No I mean one specifically for people in my age group. Amateur or not, I don't want to compete against someone with ten more years of training and experience.

Thats what I mean.. there are usually teen divisions, when the show is a big one. However, if there is not, you'll have to play with the more experienced guys. Dont worry, they will be cheering you one and giving you motivation. They think its awesome when someone so young gets involved in the sport.

Ah, now I see. I'm just wondering how I would compare to someone close to my age and bodyweight. I know I wouldn't do well in comparison, but like I said before, it would be fun to be there. Thanks for the replies, and sorry for the misunderstanding.

Obviously the weights will differ between amateur and pro levels, and within the subdivisions of amateur (or at least I'm assuming). Is there any way to find out exactly what weights and events will be done for the teen level?

There are only 2 weight classes.. 230 and over, and 230 and under for adults. I think for teens, its 185 and over, and 185 and under. I dont know what weights for the equipment they use.. and the events will always vary, depending on contest.

walking DBs and wapling implements are way way different. Implements have a fat, thick handle and are long so they roll and twist in your hand and it is tough to get a handle on them. I would highly doubt you could take 225lb implements for a 20yrd. walk.

I doubt that too: the weight I mentioned above was the total weight. However, the dumbbells are harder in one way: the space where your hand goes is just big enough for part of your leg to fit into, meaning the weights are almost wrapped around that part of the leg, making it hard to move them. It's a mere annoyance but it's still... well... annoying.
