Another simple question not easily answered in black and white.
I read today in Muscle and Fitness magazine about the infamous hammer curl. It says it targets the long head and is the bigger part of the biceps muscle. Now Ive done this workout before, but I thought it mostly did the forearms. As I read I was kinda wrong. So if this workout should always be incorporated into the bideps workout, how heavy should one go? Beginning of the workout or end? Mine was always near end. It also says this long head is the *peaker* muscle. My guns arent cut so maybe taking this workout more seriously would help out. No? |

There almost isn't a biceps day without hammers for me. I usually start with those, then do my whimpy weight stuff. |

Good like isolating the heads of your biceps. If you can break the laws of anatomy, then I commend you.
Even though the isolation of the long head bit is a load of crap, I still think hammer curls are a decent movment. They hit your biceps, brachialis, and forearms. As well, they allow you to use quite a bit more weight than a standard curl, at least from my experience. |

Functional Lifting = Life
|
I do hammer curls and hammer curls only. To me, they offer more functional strength than any other bicep curl. Think about it: how often do you do a preacher curl in your everyday life? How often do you do a hammer curl?

Hammers are great. Every 2nd workout I use them. Good pump, good results.
