are these breathing reps? rest pause?

I squat for 20s but I may stand there for about 20sec before each rep when I am hitting numbers 15-20. Nothing wrong with that.

That's where free weight rules. I don't need to buy a new bar, all I have to do is buy some more plates.

Do you use such high reps on squats often, P?

I cycle it in. I haven't done it in awhile since I am training for speed and power. The 20reps will make me sore and slow me down.

You can slow down the reps to make it more difficult, but it sounds like its time to move onto something better eventually.

Where I am at right now, I gain ZERO strength even with 10 rep chest pressing.

I tend to pyramid my sets/weights, might start @ 17 reps, but do 4 sets, ending up @ 3 reps...

Even if it's not too light right now, it will eventually become too light. Resistance needs to be progressive. Sounds like you are severely limited.

Your body must be challenged in order to do what it doesn't want to do, break the curve of homeostasis.

See its funny, how are you doing these 17 reps. Sometimes, not on chest excercises, but on BB rows for instance I'll gut it out in perfect form to 9 and then my heart and mind takes care of 8 extra reps. there not full reps, but when your going to failure they feel excellent.

As for P. That is completely true. I do 20 rep sets of squats, or try to, and my reps toward the end take 20 seconds to get my breath back in order.
