    DDR for cardio

I don't really like getting outside and running around in the sun. So I've chosen to play DDR for cardio exercise.

For those of you who don't know what DDR is, it's Dance Dance Revolution, a game.

Would you say this is as affective as running, or other intense cardio exercises? I've started playing for a minimum of 40 minutes per day, and I burn anywhere from 30-60 calories per song. I'm going to try using DDR combined with weight training to get in shape.

You dont have to run for cardio if you want fat burning. High intensity exercise burns up ATP stores, not bodyfat.

Walking, is just fine. If you want to do DDR then do DDR, jump rope, or whatever you like.

Anything that keeps you moving is fine. Just use common sense: if you want to lose more weight faster, go on heavy instead of standard, etc. to burn more calories. Dieting can also help you greatly in achieving this goal.

I bought a 100 dollar pad in May and I'm pretty good at it. So I play really intense songs. It's definitely a great work out, and it's fun.

Actually a friend of mine... who dances... screwed up her ankle from this game. Seems to me like it's more dangerous than any other video game out there...

I would get something to monitor your heart rate. If you can actually maintain an elevated heart rate of 60-65%+ of your max heart rate, then I say go for it. Otherwise, it's not going to be as effective at giving you that sustained boost in resting metabolic rate that occurs for a while after you finish working out.

Granted, even if you don't achieve that high of a heart rate it will still produce some level of results, they just might not be maximal. Sounds like an inventive way of making exercise fun though. Good call.

My brother has lost TWENTY pounds playing DDR. And this is on a diet of McDonalds, Jack in the Box, Burger King, and eating out for breakfast damn near every day. It's incredible.
