    Shrugs o.0

I jsut got back from the gym; shoulder, back and bicep day. Here I was, minding my own business, doing my bb shrugs when this 80 year old crazy veiny 65 lb woman comes up to me and says "When ur doing ur shrugs, use an over-under grip"

wtf? legit or jsut crazy talk?

A matter of personal preference. Instead of barbell shrugs, do dumbell shrugs. That way the shrugs can be done either at the front or side to hit your inner and outer traps. If that fails, just bang the chick. She'll love it.

lol, that brings up another question...about the db shrugs, i see ppl who do them at the sides, doing them straight up, and others in a circular motion...

Doing shrugs in a circular motion is about as useful as a 50 inch cock in a world of virgins. In won't work your traps, but it will screw your rotator cuff. Because muscles work in a linear fashion - push, pull - the circular motion doesnt do anything.

As for the side front thing, dumbells in front of your thighs will work your traps close your neck. The side shrugs will target your lower, outer traps.

For my delts w/o shuld i be doing:

    side shrugs 3-4 sets
    front shrugs 3-4
    then *insert exercise here*?

or is the first 2 good? theres not much varation in there

I don't see any need to inlcude both side shrugs and front shrugs into your workout. Just alternate between the two every workout.

A good shoulder workout for me would look like:

Military presses (compound movement - always done heavy, in the 6-10 rep range) 3 sets
Front raises (isolation movement for your front delts - go as heavy as possible but still maintain perfect form - 10-12 reps) 3 sets
Lateral raises (isolation movement for your side delts - these fibres are mainly slow twitch so I like to do these 3 sets in giant set fashion with 12-15 reps fer set) 3 sets in giant set form.

    Post back with any questions.

yea i was jsut posting for my delt delts, im bad with names, especially on no sleep, but i meant the shrugs for the top delts, the part next to my neck. My shoulder w/o right now is 4 sets of seated lateral raises alternating every set with 4 sets of seated shoulder press

The part next to your neck - you mean your inner traps? Front shrugs will get those.

if you switch the grip with every set
and always do an even number of sets
so you don't develop any uneven symmetry

But I would go with matched grip and put the screws
    to your grip strength -

That is a grip recommended to people with not enough grip strength, to complete the required # of reps. It helps them complete an exercise.

I would think most people can shrug more than a they can hold for 5 reps, unless your doing high reps, I'd use some straps, the over under thing works but it feels strange to me.

I'd just bang the old chick sounds like she wants your hammer anyway.

Beats me why people would shrug for 5 reps...

I'd go for the chick, probably the only action she's had in 35 years.

    Bahaha. Good point.

There is no reason to use anything but a pronated grip when doing shrugs unless you can't hold the weight. If your grip strength doesn't allow you to complete the set, then you may want to consider an over-under grip. Tell grandma to leave you alone.

Time to load up the barbell, or load up granny....?

I've always used heavy dumbells, that way I feel I can target my traps better. I think any less than 12 reps is a waste of time because traps are a tonic muscle.

The only reason to use an over-under grip is to allow you to hold more weight. If you can hold it using a pronated grip, then you should. I suppose if you feel more comfortable using an over-under grip then go for it, but I certainly prefer pronated if I can hold the weight.

so you think a certain grip will change the effect of the trap development.

????? Obviously it had just happened, and I didn't ask her age, but here, you want a new, less descriptive description? A senior lady, fit, veeeeeerrry skinny. Ppl should be able to post w/o being flamed by ppl like you. Go lift, keep your dumbass assumptions to yourself.

No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that the opposite is true: either grip is going to result in similar stimulation of the traps. Therefore, there is no efficacy in what the senior lady said.
