    What to do

What do you do if you're pinned under the bar if you miss a rep on the bench

hope someone runs over to save you.

try tip it to the side so the weights dump off of one end

try and rolll it down your body adn sit up

I was in that position once and I rolled it down my body and I swear a muscle in my stomach got torn bad because it hurt for weeks.

I almost had it drop on my neck a couple years ago. I was lifting alone in my basement, so good thing I was able to get the bar up. Otherwise, bye bye me. Now I have sawhorses set up so that I can't die. It's pretty nice actually.

Where did you get this idea from, it's actually a good one.

I thought of it. I was thinking about getting a powercage, and then I saw the price. I therefore thought that I could make something similar, or buy part of it. I then found online $20 steel sawhorses at Home Depot that hold 1,200 pounds each. I bought the sawhorses and set them up, originally for ATG squats (I didn't BB bench at the time). It just so happened that this was also the perfect height for a safety for benching for me. So now I can try BB benching at last without worrying about dying.

I suddenly got the image of the movie Unbreakable where Bruce Willis is using paint buckets on his bench cause he ran out of weight.

    Its a good idea though.

I've had that happen on a smith machine once when the bench rolled off the block and I suddenly had the bar at about crock level, not a good time.

Most people don't realize that if you have enough weight on the bar and you're tired enough, you can't sit up with the bar (has anyone who suggested that actually done it with hundreds of pounds?). Tipping it to one side should be possible if you don't use collars, but a last option for someone like me (I can already hear my parents complain about the floor). I'd rather just have my steel guardians next to me. No worries, no pain.

I pause reps on my chest frequently, so I'd just do that until I got my energy back.

I've sat up off the decline with 225, and stood up on an incline with 225. If I pause the weight for a few I can get enough energy back to hit it. I dont do so many sets that my muscles completely and utterly fail to the point of not being able to lift even a pizza later on.

You're also a highly trained athlete; a person just starting off may not be able to do this. Plus that's probably not that much weight to you.

Yep, I do reps. I'm not going to put 25 pounds over my max on the bar, because you aren't putting 25 pounds on your previous max unless you are on something hardcore, in which case you should know what to expect. And moreover, why would you max 2 weeks in a row? And if you are not, then you dont know where your CNS is until you've been through your warmup sets. And if that were the case, this would never, ever happen unless you hurt yourself somehow on the bench.

In summation, I can't remember how many years its been since I've been pinned UNLESS I had a spotter and was therefore pushing myself a few extra pounds. Except on that incline, that was within 15 months or so, but I know I can get up off the bench with it easily.
