I've tried them before but I hated them and quickly took them out of my routine. If you're looking for a good exercise, most people swear by CG benches, but for some reason I really don't feel anything in my triceps with those. Skullcrushers and french presses are also popular, and tate presses are less popular, but I felt it in my triceps when I did those. Hope this helps.

Stick to basics first IMO, those are a finisher at best. I do a set every once in awhile.

All i have to work out is free weight ass well so i feel your pain... for my tri's i do reverse grip bench
Tri kick back
closegrip bench
45-degree french press
tricep dips
overhead extension
i knew a guy with huge defined triceps that swore by his system of compound setting skullcrushers with close grip benches and single overhead extensions.
Still Alive.
we used to do that...one of our coaches used to play football for some texas college and he had insane Pris as well... he called that exercises Mad-dogs... it was actually a very intense workout itself.

I like doing overhead extensions with both arms, just make sure you keep your elbows together.Originally Posted by bigman64

I prefer to keep my elbows apart personally. Forcing them in, just like on a skullcrusher, is asking for trouble. Nothing should be forced. The tricep still contracts either way you do it - meaning its getting worked out.

My favorite exercise for triceps is skullcrushers offset with close-grip benches.

Close grips are my mainstay, then I might do some pushdowns. I do like overhead dumbell work, but typically 2 arm. Haven't done any in awhile though.

I don't typically do direct arm work, but I a lot of powerlifters swear by Tate presses and JM presses. Powerlifters generally have some of the biggest and strongest triceps around because they are the most important muscle when it comes to shirted bench pressing.

I've done tate presses before and I really liked them. I just couldn't get a very big ROM because the dumbbells would obstruct it. I've never heard of JM presses, I'll have to look those up.

Ah, I see. I already found it elsewhere, but that gives a much better picture of what it looks like with proper form. Thanks.

I suppose it also depends where you touch, I bench low so I dont get as much if I tried to fold my arm and bench high.

I've definitely noticed that...I can lift more with my elbows out but I work the triceps a lot more when I keep my elbows tucked in.Originally Posted by Akkers

When you start to get stronger, keep the elbows in. More weight + splayed elbows = huge amounts of stress on the wrists. Just keep going the way your going.

For me benching high it actually wears my arms out faster, with or without the bench shirt I have to bench low or else my reps and my 1RM go down. I get a mean pump in my arms from benchin high on the chest, it becomes somewhat like a tricep pushdown for me, thats where I feel it along with the delts.
Somewhat strange almost, but thats my personal observation.

I know what you mean. I'm stronger when I bench lower, but I bench high because I can feel it really shredding my triceps. I just forgot about numbers, and really concentrated on trying to feel it in my triceps. I feel benching low doesnt hit my triceps enough and more of my anterior delts, like you said.
