About two months ago I injured my left shoulder (tore ligaments under scapula). Went to about a month of physical therapy for it and since then I've been doing strenuous upper body workouts without problem. Today I did lower body for the first time in a week or two.
I was on an angled hack squat machine and after I finished my second of four sets, I noticed that there was a sharp pain on the upper left portion of my back (right under my scapula). I finished my workout and I noticed the pain was quite severe. I couldn't even use my left arm to drive home...taking off my shirt was quite a chore.
My question is...how is it possible to reinjure my shoulder doing hack squats? The only plausible thing I can think of is my back tensed up and somehow I stretched/tore some ligaments.
Right now I have a heat pad on it - should I switch between heat and ice packs? Last time I injured it I didn't notice any swelling.

My doctor referred me to a physical therapist who in turn said that I can continue upper body workouts as long as I watch my weights. Might I note that I never had a problem with my shoulder/back doing upper body workouts since then - this reinjury was triggered while doing lower body.Originally Posted by ForemanRules

The P. T. was wrong.......always go to a sports Doctor and never a regular Doctor for these types of injury's.
Doctors in family practice don't know shit about sports related injuries.
