    Training Question

I have an odd question. I have been training for about 9 months. I am not training to get huge, just stay in shape and look good. I have noticed that I get better results from shorter workouts. If I spend more than 1 hour training, I start to lose that pumped feeling. Is this odd? Should I work through this feeling?

    Thanx for your responses.

NO! 1 hour is long enough, better 45 Min. You go catabolic after an hour.

    12) “The burn”, “the pump” and “the feel” have nothing to do with the effectiveness of an exercise. Yes, even I have been caught on upper body days looking at myself in the mirror when I’m all blown up, but that has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the last exercise. You do hammer strength bench presses and flyes for sets of 20 and I’ll do heavy barbell bench presses and deep dips. One of us will “feel the pump” more and the other one will grow.

Do not chase the pump Shegan.

Sam is correct - 45 mins of HARD training (= 30 second to a minute, rest between sets) is plenty.

I don't like to let my workouts go over an hour. Anabolic hormone levels, like testosterone, start to drop; conversely, catabolic hormone levels, like cortosol, start to rise.
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...

Maybe he doesn't mean the pump in terms of feeling the burn in his muscles. Perhaps he was talking about an adrenaline rush that he can no longer use to power his workouts after an hour. In that case, I'd start my workouts whenever I get one (I always lift better when that happens, which is kind of a given) and keep on going. Personally though, mine never last more than about 45 minutes, and that's if I'm maxing out and/or experimenting with new exercises and/or weights.

I decided to take off some time for the hot weather, but before that I was doing a 4 day split. Some days were no more than 30 minutes, including warm ups and all.

I agree 45 min is enough time to get things done.

I guess it also depends on where you go though. I'm in my basement, so there is zero waiting time for the equipment. In a packed gym, who knows how much that can affect total gym time and interrupt the workout?

    Thanx for the reply's.

I did use the wrong term when saying the "pump". I meant that my workout quality seemed to drop after about an hour.

    Thank you again.
