No pad. The pad can push your neck forward which isnt good. If its hurting, build bigger traps![]()

wow interesting. I ended up damaging a nerve in my lower neck / upper shoulder from using the bar without a pad. Now all squats are out because of the nerve damage. I can't even handle the weight of a olympic bar anymore, neverless adding weight to it.Originally Posted by PreMier
I use the bar, the pad sucks. I t hurts to use the bar, and I keep forgetting to bring a towel on leg day so I don't know what thats like
I prefer no pad. The bar doesn't feel quite as secure to me if I use a pad. I tried it once ages ago, and never again.

The jurassic period. I was the only man alive, so I had time to play around with all the various ways of supporting a barbell on my shoulders.Originally Posted by MyK

No pad.
i dont like putting that bar directly on my skin so i use my bench towel (i carry two always, one for my sweat the other for other peoples) folded a few times as a kind of thin pad.

cool thanks for the quick response on the feedback guys.. looks like i will not be using the pad.. i know that sounds like this should be in a females only section.. but its true i will not use the pad, cause what actually happened was that the bar slid around on the back of my neck, and i think it like streched the skin. ya ouch so thanks guys the pad was pretty thick though like 3" in diameter.. again thanks for the fast response i always just thought everybody used a pad didnt know ..
I agree, when you are going for a max squat,Originally Posted by CowPimp

That thing better be glued rock solid to me where I have complete
control over it...
WTF is a 1/2 inch piece of foam going to do against 2-300 lbs anyway???

i fold up a gym towel and put it on my traps/shoulder area. i also use the manta ray when doing squats; it helps distribute the weight across my shoulders so i have one less thing to worry about other than the pain of the bar on my spine.

I wrap it with a towel, use the gel/sponge cushion, or both. Some say youre a puss if you use it.
Hmm...I am working on me LEGS. Not my fucking shoulders. Plus, if anything, its more weight.

just think if we deleted the two word only thread, the post whore thread, etc., then their post counts would drop to about half!

No pad... just feels more.. natural to squat with the bar on your back.
Lift hard, or go home!

Maynard : But the Gimp's sleeping.
Zed : Well, I guess you're gonna have to go wake him up now, won't you?
No pad on the squat here either. I like the pain!![]()
But man, the standing calf raise machine at the gym I go to could use some extra padding.
I have red looking scratch marks all over my shoulders today!![]()
No pad.
I just wear a shirt. I agree that a pad isn't as secure... you NEED that bar to be secure when going heavy (even when you're not it still should be). Besides, with a pad on, that means the bar is farther away from your back, and your arms, which are now primarily responsible for holding the bar up, are also farther away from your back. In this position, they have much less strength than they do when they're in line with your back. So would you rather have your back and your arms holding the bar, or some pad and your arms in a disadvantaged position? I'd rather trust my back, one of my strongest body parts.

It's funny you say that, because a shirt throws me off a little. I like to wear a wife beater when I lift. Part of this reason is because I want the iron sitting on my skin. It is so much more secure, although I always get busted blood vessels on my traps. I like them though.Originally Posted by Squaggleboggin

No pad for me, either. I like to feel what the bar is doing back there-- especially when using max weight.![]()
