if you are worried about the biking taking away from your attempts to put on size make sure that you make up for the extra activity by increasing your calories.

I am thinking of changing my training routine and would like some of your educated opinions (I apologize if this gets long).
Presently, I do my first part of the week with light weights (10-20 reps for 3 sets). The second part of the week is heavy (less than 10 reps for 3 sets). Little to no cardio. This seems to work with my goals (just to be in decent shape).
I am thinking of adding mountian biking 2-3 times a week for about an hour a pop. This is not riding down a flat path but, hitting some technical trails that require body English and a fair amount of conditioning.
My concern is that the biking may require too much energy and take away from my attempt to build muscle. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Nice back!!!
My workouts go something like this:
Day 1 Chest, tris & shoulders; 3 sets (10 -20 reps) each of various exercises
Day 2 Back & bi; 3 sets (10 -20 reps) each of various exercises
Day 3 legs; 4 sets reps depend on pain level (bad knees)
Day 4 Chest, tris & shoulders; 3 sets (less than 10 reps) each of various exercises
Day 5 Back & bi; 3 sets (less than 10 reps) each of various exercises
Thanx.

I would avoid working out more than 2 days consecutively, if at all possible. Give your body a chance to recuperate. It's one thing if you were to do 20 minute workouts 5 days per week, but I think you could use some rest days in there.
How about 2 days on then one day off? You could bike on your days off from lifting. You should be fine, as long as you eat enough food. That is not an excessive amount of cardio by any means.

WHat are your goals???
I will have trouble not working out for the 5 days straight. I take the weekends off for family time. Although, the biking would occur on the weekends. What benefits would/could I gain by breaking up the week?
My goals are to basically be in shape/look decent. I am at that age when the doughnut wall can come and hit hard.
Thanx guy/girls.

You would gain the benefit of improved recovery. Resistance training causes stress to the central nervous system, microtrauma to skeletal muscle, and stresses connective joint tissues. You need to give yourself some days off so that you can properly recover from these training sessions.Originally Posted by Shegan
In fact, I highly suggest going with a 3 or 4 day split. I have never liked 5 day splits for natural lifters.

I figured the 2 days off would be sufficient for recovery. I will give the 3 day splits a shot (when the it cools down).
Thank you for the advice.
