I don't like the idea of smith squatting to build up the musculature to do free weight squats. That doesn't make sense to me. I would rather just start them out with partial squats and slowly improve their range of motion of the course of a few weeks. Teaching them improper motor patterns is a good way to cause an injury once they move to freeweight squats.

They need strength and conditioning coaches on that show, not bodybuilders.

Yes, why not just start with the bar and do it the right way? I didn't even click on the link, but nonetheless I agree with cowpimp.

Derick Farnsworth is wearing a dress?

Everything they did and said was backwards IMO. You should build core muscles, strength, balance and stability using a free weight squat, then move to a Smith squat once you know how to squat.

and just for the record, I really do not care for Smith squats.

not even going to watch. The fit show sucks and the BB'ers are unqualified to talk about training IMO. I could do better with a web cam and a weekly Iron Magazine slot....hahaahha

Exactly. How are you going to develop core musculature and the ability to balance weight by not balancing the weight...

That's some funny shyte man! And you're right, I was really surprised by the general, varying degrees, of "incompetence" the quests have displayed on the show, including this one. The only show I really enjoyed was week 4 with Monica Brant.

I wasn't diggin' this episode but I thought I would post the link anyway. On the flip side, I'm glad I did, it was really good to read everyone's critique, just goes to show that the members here really know their stuff.
