I don't know what is wrong with your shoulders, but a closer grip uses more triceps and less chest.
when i do wide grip bench presses my deltoids hurt every time i push up. but i have no pain in my deltoids if i do a closer grip bench press. does anyone know why this is.

You may have some rotator cuff problems. Get checked out by a doctor.
