I want to give him a good basic routine, not too basic though(he has been working out for a little while...but only doing like bench pressing.) Anyway he's about 5'9 180-185..He said he wanted a 2 day routine, so I was thinking of giving him something like this:
I wanted to make him try the 5x5(2 warm up sets and 3 working sets with the same weight, and once you can do 3x5 with the same weight you raise)because i'vehad good gains with it. monday: deadlift 5x5 bench press 5x5 overhead press 5x5 close grip bench 5x5 maybe a set or two of another tricep exercise? thursday: squat 5x5 chins 5x5 barbell row 5x5 weighted sit-ups 5x5 barbell curl 2-3x5 Thats what I thought of....change it, or make a new one...thanks for replies |

Well, if he's only been bench pressing it's likely he has a muscle imbalance between his upper body pulling and pushing.
So, you would want him to focus on rowing, chins, etc That routine looks ok though, you may have to lower or raise the volume depending... ------------------ Complex problems have simple, easy to understand, wrong answers. |

WEll, there's not much else you can do with a 2 day per week routine. That looks fine.

Sorry for the newbie question ... can someone describe what a "5x5" is? I didn't quite understand the brief description above.
Thanks, sideshow |

Sideshow, what he is referring to by 5x5 is 5 sets with 5 reps per set. In this situation, Bharminder is suggesting 2 warm up sets, (so two sets with 5 reps) with lighter weight to warm up, then 3 work sets, where you use more weight, and the same weight for all three work sets, with 5 reps per set. Does that answer your question?
Welcome to the board! BTW Bharminder, the routine looks fine for a two day split. ![]() [Edited 2 times, lastly by Hattrick on 08-30-2001 at 06:05 AM] |
