    torn miniscus question

I just had arthroscopic knee surgery to fix a torn miniscus. My doctor really won't give me any indication of how long before I can try to lift again. I don't think he lifts. Anybody have any experience here? How long before I should start with some light weights? Thanks.

go to physical therapy and see how well you move. They will be able to tell you from there how long until you can start doing some sort of resistance training. You can still train your upper body in the meantime.

I was just scoped myself. I had debris (sp?) removed and they "sanded" the bone to make it more smooth. This was done on 8/31.

Funny thing is, he won't tell me that either. I told him I was training upper body and he said that was fine but to avoid squatting or leg extensions. Later he said avoid leg pressing also.

I ran on it yesterday so I am about to give myself clearance to start lifting with my legs again. I am going to start with a very light workout just to see how it reacts the next day and gradually build up.

Your surgery was a bit more serious though. Do you have any pain? If so, I'd stay away from leg exercises.

    little pain

I had very little pain. It's swelled up a little, but I really just have a reduced range of motion and it's only been 4 days. I'm really tempted to do a light workout next week and see how it reacts.
