I think most smith bars are in the range of 10-20 pounds. However, this won't translate to your freeweight bench exactly. Don't think because you are moving 190 for 8 reps on the smitch machine you can do the same with the freeweight bench press.

Very true, I never do smith but about 3 years ago I benched on the smith just for a change...I had to use 40Lbs more on it than I did on free weights....nice ego boost

I can bench more with free weights than with the smith. The range of motion is so limited for me on the smith.

I personally use it for my heavy bench days and I dont have a spotter . it is a very awkward range of motion though .

Mine has a carriage assembly and it weighs 50 lbs. I would stand on a scale with and without supporting the bar and get the correct weight.

I never figure in bar weights, feel like I'm acting desperate: "I really lifted 10 Lbs more than it seems!!"

the smith machine is suppose to be used to isolate the pecs. and forget about stabilizing the barbell and focusing on just using ur chest. a lot of bodybuilders do this on it.

I can't believe you are calling it a Smyth Machine.
