just tore my hamstring halfway through my sprinting programme. this is what i was planning as a weekly routine:

    tue - w/o B
    wed - sprints/swimming/squash
    thu - w/o A
    fri - soccer
    sat - w/o B
    sun - 5-7mile hill run

    w/o A-
    Bench Press
    Incline DB Press/Fly Super Set
    Upright Rows
    Bent Over Rows
    Barbell Curl
    Hammer Curl
    Reverse Curl
    Tricep Extension
    Grips

    w/o B-
    Squats
    Straight Leg Dead Lift
    Leg Extensions
    Leg Curls
    Lateral Raise
    Front Raise
    Arnold Press
    Rowing Machine

obviously i wont be playing soccer friday or running sunday, what should i be doing? concentraiting on upper body? splitting upper body routines ( i want to do some training every day - i was really getting into it)

If you tore your hamstring then all you can really do it rest it and train your upper body. Did you tear it from the bone? Do you need surgery? Is it swollen? black and blue? Are you icing it?

yeah had ice on it while iv been at my pc. it hurts from bout 4ins from behind the knee all the way up to my butt. its not turned colour no. kills to walk, even worse when i bent down to try get my trainers off. it made 2 cracking noize like if id click my fingers or something.

ill just try work out a 3 day upper body split or something. ill probably know more by tommorow how bad it is, im just really pissed off at the moment. i need to workout everyday too keep my motivation and that up. im gonna search google for some recovery tips.

not gonna bother a doctor about it, it would mean taking time off work and i doubt they can do anything anyway.

a torn hamstring can easily take 8 weeks to heal
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

Biggest thing with an injury right away is to reduce inflammation and stop scar tissue from building up so the first 72 hours is really key. Ice it constantly, especially after even walking. Make sure you are staying OFF it - that means no jogging, leg workouts, or even walking if you can avoid it for a while.

Sounds like a grade 2 strain, true, but there could be a lot more going on than that. At the very least go get an x-ray done to make sure it isn't torn and consult a good sports doc (don't go to a GP they don't know anything about sports injuries). But yeah, recovery time is a good 6-12 weeks at least. Doesn't mean you're screwed, but you can shorten the time you have off by taking care of it properly now instead of waiting.

Then you have consider the source because your area there is going to be weak in the future. Did you warm up properly? Did you overdo your speed without building up gradually? Did you have proper form? These are things that need to be addressed otherwise you will just hurt it over and over again.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.

The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.
