Grunting isn't something you do to prove you are strong, it really does help some people get the weight up.

i bet you always get a complimentary towel when you go to your gym, you probably wear gloves as well even tho you dont use the free weights.

Anyways... everyone has his/her own way of mentally pushing themselves that extra little bit. If they grunt, they grunt. It's not hurting you and it's certainly allowed under the Constitution, so live with it. Wear headphones. Tune them out. Do something, but stop complaining because it'll probably never go away unless you work out at home.

I grunt a little bit on my last repetition or two sometimes, but it's non-invasive as far as I can tell. It's fairly quiet. However, there isn't much I can do about banging weights around when I'm doing deadlifts. Otherwise I'm pretty good about that.

Doesnt grunting also "shock" the CNS in a way? Allowing you to go up in weight without doing so many inbetween sets?

Grunters don't bother me at all. It's the loud-mouth idiots who stand around the bench together talking about sports for 20 minutes without lifting anything that are irritating. The only muscle they're exercising are their tongues. But at least the grunters are actually working out.

well said! those are the real ones that piss me off, all standing around laughing and yelling, when some of us are trying to have an intense workout, its a big distraction

i grunt when pushing out tough reps sometimes, so do most of the other serious lifters at the gym, it don't bother me one bit! as with dropping heavy weights, you can either drop them and avoid injury, or try and place them down and risk ripping your shoulder out of its socket! yes throwing weights around is a bit immature, but there is a line between throwing plates on the floor, and dropping a heavy ass dumbell after a set of presses

Never heard anything like that myself. Know where you read the information?

Hrm, I certainly do trust most of what SF has to say in regards to science and training. He is a smart fellow. I'll have to look into it myself.
