for me it depends on the body part and exercise. typically the 1st exercise for me I will pyramid up to my working loads
in order to gain muscle, do u guys reckon 3-4 sets of 10 is good or do you have to use that pyramid format as in weight gets higher reps get lower? thanks for reading, tom

I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.
Definitely pyramids. Reverse as well.
Pyramids, and reverse pyramids, plus drop sets and super sets are all good. Even straight sets once in a while are good. I'm a firm believer in mixing it up. Each week I'll do something a little different and it seems to work for me.
I do pyraminds..always form lowest to highest.. rep range decreases from 15-4reps..
eg shoulder presses
stat with 20lbs, then 40, 60, 80 and 100

I don't necessarily think either one is superior. However, I always warmup by acclimating the weight over the course of a few sets. I prefer to start with my heaviest working sets first, but LAM's method is good for "revving up" your central nervous system.
