off topic to me would be talking about the weather etc. i think we learn by following things along their logical path. other questions come up that are off shoots of the original topic. broaden your mind a bit.....don't need everything in neat little boxes do you? (lol)

in the future if people prefer i'll be sure to start a new topic instead of adding on to an existing one. didn't realize you'd be so sensitive. to me diet and food issue is about getting lean but you're right - not specific to your cardio question.

i just had another comment for this thread. Rose, you stated you hate cardio in your original comment(really who does like working on a stationary machine like a hamster) but I just wanted to remind you about all the benefits of doing aerobic exercise in the long-run. Besides decreasing your body fat, the most common reason people engage in it, in the long-run it will protect your cardiovascular system, something weight training cannot do alone.
I'm just asking you to consider the long-range positive side effects. That is what makes me do it when I don't feel like it. If my dad who almost died of a heart attack last year can now run 10k a day, what the heck am I doing complaining!!!! I am not trying to preach at all, I'm just trying to give you incentive to do your cardio
    Hope it helped.

None of the posts were off topic. As suggested earlier, the question just followed a natural progression, which is true of most posts. Now, if you don't wish to do cardio, it IS still possible to get cut. However, you will need to do your weight training in a ceratin fashion, and be even more diligent about diet. Personally, I like the benefits of cardio in terms of health as mentioned, and I prefer to be able to eat more and lift heavier while cutting, and cardio work will allow this.

Rose I didn't bother to read this whole thread, but is there some reason you can't/won't do cardio?

Cardio doesn't mean being a hamster. Play a sport.

Maybe your wife needs to hit the gym more?

I dont really know of any good way to cut without cardio. You can naturally by limiting calories (esp. carbs) and taking various supplements... but you'll never be as lean as if you were to do cardio.

Why dont you tell your wife there is a cost to everything in life, and having a great bod (which definitely benifits her as well) isnt free.

Btw, just to put your question in perspective... its like saying:

"I really hate to be fat, but damn I just love to eat... do you guys know what I can do to thin down and still pork out?"

Of course, yours isnt as severe as that, but it is similar.

    * Oh, and make sure you get lots of fiber in your diet.

    * and make sure you are getting plenty of healthy fats (flax, olive oil, fish, etc)

    * Eat meats that digest quickly... stay away from pork, etc. Fish is the best, followed by birds, followed by the 'ol cow, and so on.

I should start by saying I LOATHE cardio. I hate every minute and I've been coming up with all kinds of excuses not to do it.

Starting this week (tonight) I can't have any more excuses because it works. Thing is - I've gotten much leaner over the past month or so without out. Been eating really clean and lifting and I'm getting leaner. But the thing is - I don't think I should be cutting my calories any lower. Don't want to skimp on nutrients and do want to keep my muscle and even add more if I can.

Cardio lets me get leaner and still keep the food and nutrients coming in.

I hate it. I wish it didn't matter - but for me it does.

not an option. i actually need to bump my calories up a bit or i'll be losing muscle. i've decided i may keep hating cardio - as long as i do it anyway!

did it everyday this week 'cept wednesday. only 20-30 minutes but it's probably enough since my diet is super clean.
