Pyramid loading schemes are fine, but not necessarily optimal. There are all kinds of different loading patterns you can use. Check out this article on the abundance out there:

i might give it a try w/ 8,6,4...should i do a warmup set before doing this?...i usually do a warmup set on everything i do
I would say do more than one warmup set. I usually day about 3, although it depends on how heavy I'm going and what exercises I've done previously. Sometimes I won't warmup at all for a movement, and sometimes I'll do 8 warmup sets.Originally Posted by kenwood

W0W,i'll probably do the pyramid on all my muscles except abs and i'll probably stretch before and do a couple warmup sets...if you were goin to do curls w/bb and you want to go as heavy as you can w/8,6,4 how many warmups would you do for an example?
i like to pyramid my weight up, not my reps down. i found sticking to a set rep range produced ass kicking results.

You may want to save stretching until after your workout. Stretching before can force you to lift lighet weights, and I always think of the comparison of stretching a cold rubber band. You may just have to figure out what works best for you. For example, I found that warming up with about 50% of my working sets for 3x3 setsXreps works great for me - I'm not too tired to do the working sets and yet I'm warmed up enough not to get injured. So if I did three warm up sets of five for your routine, you may find two sets of four more suitable. I'm sure you already knew this, but I'm just reminding you that you won't always get an exact answer. Feel free to experiment and find the best thing for you.Originally Posted by kenwood
