    HIIT and sleep

Did my first true HIIT last night, apparently I was doing indurance intervals before. Anyway I hit the bike around 8:00 pm and hit the sack around 10:00 and layed there until 12:00 which is very unusual. Is this common or was I just wired? If this is going to be standard I'll HIIT in the morning. I leave the house at 6:30 already so I really don't want to get up at 5:00 if I can help it. I'm also a little nervous going from sleep to max HR in 5 minutes.

I think a lot of people find they can't fall asleep soon after they workout, especially with cardio. If you're worried about your heart jumping within five minutes of waking up, then make sure to warm up. If you walk around for 5 minutes and jog for a minute or 2 before you start the intense stuff, you should be fine. Jumping right out of bed and sprinting is probably not a good idea if you have a heart condition. It's probably only a good idea if you're completely out of your mind.

This may be a fluke though, and I don't see why HIIT should be too different from conventional cardio concerning your sleep habits. I'd try it again once or twice... If you still can't sleep in time, then I guess you gotta do it in the morning :P.

excercise doesn't negatively affect my sleeping patterns ever, but if it does yours, I would do as you said, and do the cardio in the morning instead.
