swimming involves all muscles!
You need to hit the lats, pecs glutes, quads and hamstrings also....!!!!
i've just recently started weigth training, so that i can build some upper body strength. I am a swimmer so i need to focus on biceps, fore arms, and triceps mostly.
what are some good techniques for workin on triceps and or biceps?
i'm currently benching around 115 pounds, and i only weigh 135. how heavy should i be lifting, and how far should i go down with the bar? all the way to the chest or what?
anyone got some good advice or a little routine for me?
THANKS

Well if this helps...(im no professional like alotta the guys on here but i have some knowledge)
Train your quads...quads...and quads... (not only quads but play a role a big one)
Exercises
- Squat
- Leg Press
- Knee Extension
Also another body part i would focus on working"would be your rotater-cuff muscles.
1. Almost all repetitive overhead activity will result in a chronic shoulder pain. (sister used to swim)
Exercises ( a few)
1. Lateral Raise
2. Military Press
those are the only workouts you do or do you do train chest and arms and what not??
Seems no one wants to answere your ?'s but me. In order
Biceps:
1) Straight bar curls
2) Ez bar curls
3) Hammers (DB's)
4) Seated incline curls (DB's)
Triceps:
1) Reverse grip bench press
2) Close grip bench press
3) Skulls crushers
4) Dips
5) pushdowns
I had a kid in my high school...Wade King.....he missed the Olympic swimming team by one spot in 1988......he trained with us at our gym. He never focused on arms at all..................this kid really needs to do some sports specific research!!Originally Posted by Tough Old Man

i don't know how that kid did nothing with his arms? but thats what i need to do...
i have a killer kick, my legs seem to never get tired, probably becasue of all the running i do. but my arms are my weakspot. i not only need more stregnth, but i also need more mass so that i can catch more water if you know what i mean.
thanks to who ever posted the bi's and tri's, could you please explain to me what skull crushers and push downs are?
THANKS
He was #6th in America for free style......................I doubt he did anything wrong in his trainingOriginally Posted by MrSkinny

He's trying to say you need more then arms dummy...115, my sister can do that. If you want pretty arms then just come out and say it. Do compound chest, shoulder, and back movements and you will be rewarded with bigger arms.
Foreman is saying that even if you think your damn legs are fine you still need to train them because that's going to help you swim better. So you can ask for help specifically on arms but the more experienced bodybuilders and athletes on these forums (not me, but I've read enough threads to predict what they're going to tell you) are just going to recommend a training routine that focuses on everything.Originally Posted by MrSkinny

Something similar to skull crushers: http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/...ingTriExt.html
Hmmm, I can't think of a swimming stroke that would require biceps - triceps, shoulders, back and legs would seem the most important but I don't know a ton about swimming either.
Also working legs (and your whole body) helps a lot in building upper body strength... from a hormonal viewpoint
