If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Get a routine.

you don't need a routine IMO...I never do.

just figure out which muscles groups you want to work on which days....which I guess is sort of a routine, but you do not need to plan out exercises. THe only rule I follow about exercise routine is to never do the exact same thing the next week

ex.
if you do barbell incline, next week do dumbells, then the week after that go back barbell

I think this is a bad statement from you. Not only should you have a routine if your going to bodybuild but a log book also to keep track of the amount of sets, reps and weight.

I'll make this statement. If your bench pressing 200lbs for 3 reps today and still doing the same weight 6 months from now, Do you think you grew at all. I'll answere that question...Hell no.

Poster get yourself a routine and a log book

I would definitely get a routine together and switch it up every now and then. Its definitely easier to keep track of your progress with a routine.

I just started my first log book here on IM titled Primeau's switch
http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/sh...ad.php?t=55647 (Primeau's switch)

I just don't operate a set routine..never have and I'm making incredible gains. 128 (2 years ago) to 189 (today). IMO set routines cause problems for bodybuilders.

With a set routine of exercises you get too focused on strength instead of size

yeah but your juicing...AND for 95% of people starting out they REALLY need structure. There is nothing gained frome switching week to week vs. every 4-8 weeks and you can't track shit for progress. I see the same ass clowns in the gym time and time again just doing whatever machine is open for that body part...sometimes it's necessary mind you, but those guys are almost never the one's with good physiques. If you don't know what you are doing how do you know what is working?

I agree completely. This week and next I'm on what is called a cruise. Just workout doing anything. Shit I already don't remember the numbers I used this past mon and it doesn't matter. But in about 10 dyas when I hit it hard again for 5 more weeks that routine is needed and so is my log book

But you do do bring up a valid point yourself. Once a person gets used to a solid workout regimen, with structure of course, they can learn to adjust their workout on the fly even during the workout itself. I mean, if you feel like something is working better for you, or not working at all, you should recognize that a change is in order. At least that is how I have approached it. Just one man's humble opinion.
