no you won't. counterproductive. stick to cardio outside of your training or following.
I usually work out for about an hour to 90 minutes. I do anywhere from 8 to 12 different exercises. Recently what I have been doing is splitting up my routine in between doing cardio. I am not working at the moment and our kids come home for lunch so what I do is go in the morning for a bit, the afternoon and at night and what I will do is go down, do an exercise or 2, then do some cardio, then another exercise, then more cardio, then another exercise, then I come back a few hours later and do the same thing. So I am never doing more then 2 exercises at one time and I am fully rested for everything I do and my muscles aren't getting fatigued. I sort of like this because it's allowed me to increase the amount of reps I'm doing for some things as well as more weight then I would otherwise do with fatigued muscles. What I am wondering though is will I get the same benefit from working out like this that I would from just working out straight for 90 minutes, letting my muscles get fatigued and lifting while they are? Is there somehow an extra benefit from lifting with fatiged muscles? I like my new routine but I don't want to continue lifting this way if for some reason I won't get the same benefit.

Some people get lost in thought because it's such unfamiliar territory. -G. Behn
So what makes it different. If I am still doing the same exercises what does working out while fatigued give me that working out rested won't?
It really depends on your goals, and also on how the workout is being split up. Are you completing work for a single bodypart before going on to hit another? Or are you doing, for example, some chest in the morning...then again in the afternoon...then again in the evening?

I do some chest in the morning then afternoon, etc. On day 1 I do chest, day 2 I do shoulders and back, day 3 I do triceps and biceps. I'm not looking to get huge, just tone and stronger.
I'm not going to touch your original question, GOPRP is the expert in that area, do what he says. I do have a request though: PLEASE stop using your above quote. "I just want to get toned" is a phrase that was coined quite a few years ago by whimps as an excuse not to work hard. You want to get stronger? Fantastic goal, we're here to help. Huge? The only way to get huge is to eat a ton of food. If you don't want to get huge then just eat less. I know it's a simple semantics issue, but getting stronger and leaner, (your goals I assume) is serious business and you're respected for having those goals. Don't limit yourself.Originally Posted by fairluvwar

Rules? You mean we have RULES for that???
Well, your method of training is certainly not optimal for gaining muscle as you are not fatiguing the muscle fibers enough by splitting up your training. However, your muscles certainly will gain the "tone" you are speaking of, and you can also effectively gain strength this way.Originally Posted by fairluvwar
I say, if this works for you then stick with it for a while. Then, try doing an entire workout in one shot for a while and see how you respond.

Ok thanks, that makes sense. For the next few weeks while I am trying to lose the weight I put on in the last month I am going to keep doing it this way just because I am trying to do as much cardio as I can and it's easier that way. When I get back down to my original weight I will go back to doing everything in one workout.
Sounds like a plan!Originally Posted by fairluvwar
