    Help with Front Squats

Alright, I think I'm going to do front squats today. I've tried them in the past and they've felt extremely ackward and challenging with just the bar LOL. Just wondering what tips people have and things for me to keep in mind while performing the exercise.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...

Do them with the olympic grip...

Concentrate on the exercise not the weight...
(you will not be able to squat as much, this is a given, don't try)

Keep your head up and your elbows high, good luck!

The only problem that annoys me that I have with these, is breathing with a bar on my neck. Past the first day or two you should do just fine with them, I do them almost every week now.

Hyperextend your neck. That way it doesn't feel so much like the bar is inhibiting breathing.

Really focus on keeping your elbows up. Honestly, I don't think the exercise is ever comfortable. Heh.

I like to do them pussy style (with the arms crossed). I like to tilt my elbows up to that my anterior delts and traps act as a cradle. Also, try changing your foot placement, both in terms of width and the angle of your feet. You wont necessarily use the same foot placement as you do with the gool 'ol standard squat.

On more thing, since I'm not using as much weight as the standard squat, I like to go ATF.

How is Olympic style different from crossing your arms? I thought that was olympic style....

I think the olympic grip is the same as the top portion of a clean! Hands rolled back, elbows high! Sometimes this will hurt the wrist so I only hold on with about three fingers. I really concentrate on cradling the weight on my delts.

Yeah, it definitely kills the wrists. I also concentrate on resting it on a particular part of my shoulder so as to take off some of the strain.
