    Good Mornings/SLDL's

On wednesday I'll be doing Good Mornings and SLDL's with my leg routine. I've been squatting and doing traditional deadlifts for years, but for some reason, GM's and SLDL's always sort of made be nervous about hurting my back.... especially good mornings.

Does anybody have any advice as to how to keep good form? Should I be going down so my back is parallel to the ground, or a bit above that point? I've seen the videos on exrx.net, but I know sometimes that guy doesn't have the greatest form. Does anyone have any videos they could share, or maybe they could look at the exrx.net ones and tell me if they are acceptable.

    Thanks.

You only need to do one of those exercises in a given workout. You could alternate them from workout to workout.

Start light, using just an empty bar. Get the form down first, then start adding weight. As for how deep to go on GMs, it will probably depend on your flexability at first. When I do them, I'm close to what the guy in the video is doing.

this is one of the few videos on exrx that is HORRIBLE IMO. he's borderline hunching his back at the bottom of the movement and shouldn't be looking down. head down can f*ck your form on these....as you can see.

if you need to lighten the load to maintain perfect form, do so. this isn't the exercise to overload on. keep your back straight and your head up. try going to parallel if you're able and focus on firing with your hammies on the way up.

The form on both of those lifts is garbage. He rounds the Hell out of his lower back and keeps his legs totally straight. You need a slight bend in your knees so you don't hyperextend your knee joint.

Here are some videos of good form:

Also, Mikey, I can bring you into my gym or I could goto yours sometime. I could be happy to help you work on form. Lemme know if you're interested. I can bring you in to Gold's for free at any time.

Oh, another tip with GMs. Think hips back and hips forward. Don't worry about lowering your torso. That will happen automatically when your move your hips back. Same with erecting your posture. Just move your hips forward. Your torso will be "pushed" up.
