gardon and foremanrules, do one of you make a point daily to seek eachother out to fight? I thought it was just the topic/opinion we were all involved in the other day but it seems to be almost a ritual with you 2.

PS There have been plenty of threads on the "bowflex", I considered it even a few years back, I'd imagine it can't be completly worthless but never the less I've stuck to free weights

Worked on a bowflex for a demo at a local sporting good store. It sucked. Felt to awkward. Buy free weights, lot cheaper, plus 40/month gym membership is almost half the price of the cheapest bowflex. A lot of gyms around here cut deals on membership if you sign up for six months or a year in advance.

Forman: Yes mama, I didjt pay tha cay-bill...

A bowflex costs a lot more than comparable weights, the only advantage to a machine is that most machines are self spotting. There are some nifty cages out there that can do the same and use regular free weights which allows more flexibility than any machine and allows natural motion etc.

In all fairness, if you had done any research on this site about a bow flex before posting your question, you'd have found your answers, so the fact that people jumped on you for making a stupid post isn't a big surprise, the question has been answered almost as often as how to get built like brad pit. Oh yeah, and of course the people here self important assholes, but that's standard for any successful forum.

Seriously, the only forum I read here is the training forum, and it seems like almost every new thread either should have been made in chat, or thanks to the help of the regular members who post all the damn time, ends up needing to go to the open chat forum after they get their few forum troll like remarks in and turn a crappy but on topic question into a rant about who can fight better (WTF did fighting and size have to do with this thread anyway).

Gardon, I am going to answer your question because you are simply not getting it.

First, I am going to have to clue you into something everyone else here knows. These people are just screwing with you to piss you off and the reason they are doing it is because you showed impatience, immaturity and that you were just a hot headed, little punk ass, wanna be ninja, spoiled shit. You don't show up on a site and as a newbie get all pissy with long term members, call people names, say you will be here a week max and expect people to respect you. It just isn't going to happen.

Now if you learned to use the search utility, you wouldn't have to ask about the bowflex but since you obviously can't do that, this is why it sucks:

    1) Any machine movements are not as natural as free weights. The range of motion you go through isn't natural because everyones body is different. The machine forces you to go through the same motion every time. Free weights allow you to move the weight wherever you want so the range of motion is going to be natural for you. This results in a better work out and less strain on joints.

    2) You can't do compound muscle movements on it. All the exercise on a Bowflex will isolate muscles. Doing large muscle groups and compound movements work many muscles. Bench presses work triceps, chest, shoulders but there are also stabilizer muscles that contribute to get the movement right. The same thing with squats and chin ups. These large compound movements should be the core of your weight training program largely because they are natural and functional movements and not just an awkward muscle isolate exercise.

    3) Blow-flex is expensive. $800? You can get a bench a squat rack and weights for $350-400. This is all you will need for a long, long time unless you get more competitive about body building... even then this can take you quite far. If you are going off to college, chances are you won't be taking this with you anyway and gyms are quite cheap, especially on campus. Your school might even have a free gym that you can use.

By the way, your $2000 a month isn't going to go as far as you think in the real world
