    Can i do both?

A quick question on what to do for the best. I have been going to the gym for the last year but only for the last two/three months training hard.
    1. I do cardio on tuesdays and thursdays
    2. Weights mon/wed/fridays
When i first joined the gym all i did was weights and i must admit only twice a week and with no specific routine. I am of slim build weighing 184ibs and 5/11 tall. the problem is that i started doing cardio to get rid of my gut and love handles, and lost over 10ibs which i was happy with but the one thing i need to build up is my little weedy legs. My last two months have been good, i am now training with a guy who has got me squatting, doing leg presses, leg extensions and lungeing (girly).I have also just done my first 10k race.
Getting back to the question how can i build my legs up but still do cardio as i want to do 10k's and half marathons??????
    questions and answers/ideas much appreciated

First off Lunges were a big part of Mike Tysons, Ali's, Marven Hagler, Ricky Hatton...ect Boxing training and also all boxers do this to prepare for a fight......so calling it "girly" is just ridicules.

I am running 3 days a week and training with weights 5......I never do legs ( squats) the day before, of, or after I do squats.....that gives you 4 days to run.....and that is plenty if all you are doing is a 10K.

I recommend you search some of the running sites and read up on how to prepare for a 10K.
I highly recommend all IronMagLabs supplements!

If I were you I simply wouldn't build my legs up if I'm planning on running half marathons. Why carry around the extra weight for that long?

I never in my life did lunges until a couple months ago, now they are a pretty regular part of my routine. I would imagine the women aren't really using much weight if any, I use a barbell but you can use dumbells if you prefer.

I made fun of people for years who did lunges( behind their backs of course) .
Then I started boxing in 2001.......I never made fun of them again.

I think you can achieve both. A 10K run is not really all that far. You can probably build up your conditioning enough where you can complete one with only 2-3 days of cardio training each week, unless you are trying to get truly competitive with time. If that is the case, then your leg training progress may have to take a back seat to your cardio conditioning.

To get the best time in the 10K, you are going to have to direct more of your lower body training to the world of aerobic exercise as opposed to anaerobic exercise. However, you should still continue to perform resistance training exercises with your lower body. Even if you don't make great strides in the size and strength department, it will help insure that you maintain what you have.
