Should make no difference, just make sure your warmed up so you don't hurt yourself.
when your going to max-out on benchpress is it easier to lift the bar off your self? or is it easier to have someone lift off for you? i was wondering if lifting it off yourself would like make it harder to do the press, is it?

I like to do the lift off myself, so that i can feel the weight. when you get a lift off, i get a false sense of the weight, and it fucks with my head. I once heard in the gym that it takes like 70% of your power to do the lift off and that can make you tired.. but if you can lift the weight off, then how the hell do you think you are gonna rep it. I do the lift off myself.
that above statement i heard in the gym was probably by some dueschbag that couldnt max waht he said he could, and blaimed it on the lift off.. that guy must have beeen a facken Pussy..
Write that Down..
i always do the lif off myself...lasttime i maxed i was in gym class and i had a spotter and the coach w/me and the coach was like you need a lift off ?and i said no i can get it and he was like ok and the spotter went to lift the bar and i was like wtf are you doing? i just told the coach i could get it myself.....well anyway when i go to max out i lift the bar off the rack, take it up about 2"then put it back on the rack...then i get the tightest grip and start breathing heavy and get a good breath hold it while i lift off and bring it down then i blow out when i'm pressing it up....what do you guys do?... i also place my hands 15" apart..how far apart do you guys put yours?
I would get help if I felt it awkward to take it off myself (i.e. if the bar is a little higher than it comfortably should be for my reach or something). It's not like it'll make a big difference either way - just personal preference.

Having a lift off was highly preferable for me, without question. I got to the point where the weights I used were putting me at some risk of injury without it, and it took energy from me. I get as far under the bar as I can so that when I unrack it, I expend the least energy possible as well as stay in my 'power' zone so that I'm hopefully somewhat safe. I still feel though that this removes 5 or so pounds from my max.
My personal best was 425 raw.
Reaching behind your power zone when you could otherwise have a skilled liftoff, just makes no sense to me.
