Ever try the local Y.M.C.A. ?
I am probably going to just buy a pair of adjustable dumbells. What I was going to try was to get a fitness membership but since I am only 16, it's really hard to find a gym that will accept me. Do you think dumbells will be enough? My goal is to build my muscle up a little bit. I currently weigh 135 and am 5' 8". Thanks

Usually if you are under 18 you can have a parent sign off on your gym membership.
You just gave me great idea thanks.

Even if you are unable to get a membership, then you should be good with some adjustable dumbbells and a pullup bar. You can get really creative and do a lot of great stuff with no equipment at all or just a pullup bar.

get either the powerblocks or the bowflex brand adjustable DBs. They are great. All the weight is in one single contraption, no need to plates or anything.

They're also ridiculously expensive. I just stick with the old-fashioned adjustable dumbbells myself - that way it's much cheaper and you're not nearly as limited as to the poundages you can use.Originally Posted by P-funk

They used to be the cheaper years ago. I can get a better price elsewhere.Originally Posted by Seanp156
You can get a great work out with DB's. You will need alot of different wieghts though. Everything from 15 to 20's for tri extends to 50, 60 or 70's for squats or calf raises.
DB's a bench and a Pullup bar are all you need.
Of course, you can get amazingly powerful using olympic bumper plates, but that's a bit advanced and will take extremely high amounts of practice and dedication to get right. It's also somewhat more dangerous than other exercises (the olympic lifts that is) because they all involve so much speed with so much opportunity for something to go wrong.
