    Designing a Full Body Routine

Check that out. It will help you get started with a full body resistance training routine. As far as exercise selection goes, I highly recommend implementing bodyweight exercises wherever the resistance is ample. 3 days per week is a great place to start out, but even 2 days per week would be sufficient to see some solid results.

As far as doing cardio, I would suggest doing it another 2-3 days per week on days that you don't lift. If your conditioning isn't very good, then start where you can. If all you can handle is a 30 minute walk each session, then start there. Just make sure to pick up the pace over time. After a week or two try some powerwalking. After another week or two try some light jogging. You get the idea.
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...
