    Powerlifting Site

    http://www.dieselcrew.com/

I stumbled across a decent PL site with lots of good articles on using proper form in PL lifts and training grip strength. There are a few other good articles too, but I consider those to be the highlights of the site.

What aspect of the exercise do you think is most dangerous???

A strain, or dropping the weight on yourself??

    Or I guess both eh?

(Seems like you could bail on a failed lift)

have you ever done the exercise?

The amout of shoulder strain is just insanse. Plus, you really need to make sure you are balance when you are pressing. If you twist a little bit say good bye to your meniscus. It is very hard to keep tight and stay ina squat position and press directly overhead. To much can go wrong. I do them as a warm up with the bar sometimes for fun but other then that the risk is greater then the reward IMO.

    (maybe with the aluminum bar)

(if I can get access to the equipment again)

Your bar is aluminum? What does it way, 3 lbs?
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

Holy shit, my favorite part of that video is about 1:45 into it, where he drops the weight down, it bounces up off the ground, and he catches it.

I see your point. Even so, I would like to give it a try with some light weight and see how it feels.

the hardest part about it on the shoulders is that when you are doing a standing press, you move the bar around your head but there is always a slight movement of the body to help that bar move around the head. when you are squated you can't lean even a little bit so you really have to press out infront of you and then up to get it overhead which can get painful and it really messes with your balance. You shoulder flexability and stabalization strength really has to be in tip top shape to make it work with any decent weight.

I see your point. Oh well, I can still enjoy watching that crazy mofo pressing a few hundred pounds in that position.
