Cardiovascular training is very beneficial both to general health and to achieving your goal. Start running. Run however you want, but increase the pace, speed or both each time you run if you're trying to improve. Other ways to indirectly train the cardiovascular system include circuit training and many types of strongman exercises (farmers' walks, yolks, conan's wheels, sled drags, etc.). Doing olympic lifts for reps will also tire you out quickly.

Why not give interval training a shot. When I trained with intervals, I also noticed a vast improvement on the basketball court over the course of the game, and I only did my training for 12-15 minutes TOPS (it was all I could handle).

No, I'm not a runner, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out how to get faster. If you want to run faster, run. If you want to be stronger, pick heavy stuff up. It's not that difficult. He never mentioned a training schedule and it simply doesn't take much thought to become faster. Whether you've been a boxer, weightlifter and world-class bodybuilder and strongman for many years or are a complete noob, runners will always run to become faster. A runner without running is just a guy who trains a bunch of other stuff for something he never does.

in order to be a good runner you will have to add some cardio to your training program. What exactly is your training program (weights and cardio)? Do you know what your max heart rate is? what percentage of that heart rate are you trying to work at during your run? These are things you need to think about to increase your aerobic ability.

I don't know portuguese. Is "por que" in the language or does it even mean the same thing? If not, then how do I say "why" in portuguese?

Yes "Por que" means "Why" in portuguese as well. But it has variations like it can be separated "Por que", together "Porque" and with that thing I dont know the name in english so it becomes "Porquê". Although usually nobody remember the reason why they are different, only when you do some test you should worry about it. Portuguese is a beautiful language, we talk like we are singing, it is a sexy language like french or italian and it is very different from the portuguese from Portugal, like the english in American and England.

You should try learning another language.

Cool. GG is from Cuba, isnt she? So she can help you. The good thing about learning portuguese or spanish is that it is a latin language, so it will be no problem to understand french and italian on the way.

Yes, she is cuban. her parents were imagrants but she was born in and grew up in miami. spanish was her first language and her parents speak almost no english still.

she helps me but it is tough because i find that latin people speak really really fast and I can't follow or translate or pick up on everything in the conversation. I suppose it is the same thing when I try and speak english to her parents. they probably think i speak english really fast.

I don't know that much about running or cardio in general, that's why I provided very general advice. Since you seem to be an expert in this area, why not give us some insight?

Porque means 'because' in Spanish and por que means 'why.'

That is right, people usually think other languages speak really fast but they are speaking normal.
English is easy but people in NY probably work in another rhythm.
