what weight are they starting at?
To achieve a bf of 10% and assuming no LBM loss, your target weight would be equal to your LBM * 1.11
Example:
If you weigh 200 lbs and have 24% bf, your LBM = 152 lbs (48 lbs fat)
Multiply 152 * 1.11 = 169 lb is your target weight, so you would have to lose 31 lb.
31 lbs! how long would that take?
158 * 24% bf = 38 lb fatOriginally Posted by muscle_01
158 - 38 = 120 lb LBM
120 * 1.11 = 133 lb
so you would need to lose 25 lbs in an ideal setting.
In reality, you will lose some muscle too, so your final weight will be lower than 133. Exactly how much less depends on how much muscle you lose.
Depends on your eating habits. I once lost 26 lb in 9 days, but that was due to surgery and not being able to eat for a week and half. I wouldn't recommend that.Originally Posted by muscle_01

what would it take to lose that much weight? Anaerobic or aerobic exercise? in the morning? at night
Generally a safe rate is about 1% BF per week. So if you weigh 200 lbs, 2 lbs/week is generally considered safe. So, based on average weight and assuming you lose 1% BF/week, about 17 weeks or 4.25 months or 1/3 year.

Eating habits can take care of most safe weight loss. I've lost 25 or 30 pounds in the past few months from eating differently. I just ate smaller meals more frequently and avoided anything fried or processed as much as possible. It can be very simple or as complicated as you're willing to make it. KISS - keep it simple, stupid is my opinion.

~no french fries?
~no junk food?
~no soda?
~how about protein shakes(whey?)
Try to use a bit of common sense.
Right;

those are fine and typically recommended by most bodybuilders. Personally I don't take even those, but there's nothing wrong with doing so - it's just a personal preference on my part.
Anything fried has basically had all its nutritional value taken away from it and then it has had oil, grease, etc. added to it. This is a bad combination. Soda is what is referred to as 'empty calories.' In other words, it has calories but no real nutritional value. It's basically just sugar, caffeine, and a whole bunch of other stuff you don't want in your body. Even 'diet' pop is bad for you - it's still just a bunch of chemicals. Even if it has zero calories and zero sugar, you can bet they found a different way to somehow make it taste that way, and it wasn't anything natural or healthy. I'd suggest drinking basically either water or skim milk (or protein shakes). Other people can probably help you a lot more than I can when it comes to dieting though.

Why is this? If you fried say chicken in olive, avacado or fish oil, wouldnt this simply add some good fats?
keep in mind that bf% testing is generally off by +/- 3% off depending on what method you use. better to judge your progress by measurements/progress pictures.

About 25 lbs, so about 12 weeks or so.
Maybe I should've phrased that better. Any nutritional value in the food being fried is basically moot. The reason it's bad, therefore, is that the other stuff that usually goes on it is terrible (grease, etc.). If you put olive oil on it, at least that is a good fat. However, it's much better to simply bake the chicken, grill it or get it from a rotisserie. Fried foods are just something to avoid altogether IMO.Originally Posted by pengers84

IMO ur exactly right. As a rule fried foods are bad. Chicken and fish are good for you because of the high amounts of protein...(in fish, omega3 fatty acids are also a big plus) without all the bullshit that other stuff has. It's "clean." Fried foods are not....if ur trying to lose weight, stay away from them. If you don't care about losing weight and just want to eat some fried chicken, and don't care about clogging arteries...have at it.Originally Posted by Squaggleboggin

.24 * 158 = 38 pounds of fat.
158 / 100 = 1.58 --> 1% of your total weight.
if you want to lose 14% off your total weight, that is 14 * 1.58.
14 * 1.58 = about 22 pounds to lose.
sorry, not trying to be super picky, i just dont understand where you got 1.11 from.
on another note... id agree with just judge the results as you go. 10% bodyfat is pretty low... you may lose 10 or 15 pounds and find that you feel like you look ok. just see how you look and feel after losing some weight and judge from there.
The problem is that as you lose weight, 1% is no longer going to be equivalent to 1.58 pounds. What he did was determine the amount of lean body mass that the fellow has, and calculated his target weight assuming he maintains all of it.Originally Posted by squanto

.76 is the percentage of his weight that is lean mass (1-.24); which amounts to 120.08lbs
(Unknown target bodyweight)*.90=120.08lbs
You divide 120.08 by .90 to find out the unknown variable, which comes out to be 133.42lbs in this case.
He got 1.11 because dividing by .90 is the equivalent of multiplying by the reciprocal, which is (1/.90). That numbers turns out to be 1.11.
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...
