I would suggest buying a personal training certification book. The NSCA, NASM, ACSM, ISSA, and others are great.
I think Dinosaur Training is an awesome book. It's not very long, but it gives a lot of great unique training advice and is very motivational. Unfortunately, there isn't too much in terms of diet.
Check out the shop section at EliteFTS. Under the strength training book section there is a lot of great stuff. There is also a section on nutrition books. Almost anything you find there is probably worth reading.

Eh, not so sure I'd agree with that.Originally Posted by CowPimp
I might consider Thibaudeau's Little Black Book of Training Secrets if you're not well versed in training science. He also has one called Theory and Application of Modern Strength & Power Methods. Good book - kinda like a simplified version (part) of Supertraining.
Why do you say that? The need for some background knowledge first perhaps?Originally Posted by Thunder

I would think buying a PT book is an excellent idea. If you don't know any terms, you can simply look them up if they're not fully explained. This would definitely help you become well-versed in the language of exercise science, which can help a great deal when people like CowPimp post on this forum. Heh, heh, heh...

Exercise Physiology: energy, nutrition and human metabolism by Mcardell, Katch, Katch, was a pretty good textbook.
I liked supertraining by Mel Siff also.
for olympic lifting I have yet to see anything more comprehensive then the Weightlifting Encyclopedia by Artie Dreschler.
Some of the other books that Pimp recommended I liked such as dinosaur training and super squats. Athough they don't have to much (if any) science in them they are fun books to read.
I read the NSCA Essentials of Strength and Conditioning Textbook. It was okay.
I like Milo Strength training Journal and both of the NSCA Journals (the research journal and the journal of strength and conditioning) are pretty good too.
Some other books from human kinetics were pretty good......Harvey Newton's, Explosive lifting in sports. Mike Boyle's, functional strength training. There is supposed to be a new edition of Tudor Bompa's periodization book which is probably pretty good too.
