    Arnold presses?

Does anyone else do these with a barbell? I have been doing them for about two months now and the results are good. If nothing else it was a good change from traditional dumbell work.

how the hell do you do that with a barbell? You hold Dbs in a supinated position and then press up and rotate them to pronated. How can you rotate your hands around when holding a barbell?

I'm glad you asked. You see, those of us who are strong enough, are able to bend the barbell from one position to the other. It's great for grip strength too.

I guess it would be a version of the arnold press. Hold the Barbell in a supinated position and press. There is no pronated position involved. My bad!

Reverse grip Overhead presses are probably more acurate. I think the benifit is they target the front of your shoulders.

Well, they will work your anterior delt a little more because when you supinate your grip you are keeping your elbows in front of you which is causing the shoulder to move through sagital plane flexion. Where as on a traditional press, the elbows are flared out more causing the shoulder to move through frontal abduction. The RG overhead press puts some pressure on my elbows and wrists so I prefer to do the same type of movement with DBs, holding them with a neutral grip and my elbows pointing almost straight forward. it is important to be strong through a variety of planes of motion so either lift will help.

with the amount of work and stress the anterior delts get from pressing movements I have never seen a reason to "isolate" them.

Perhaps. I use them just as a change of pace movement. I was just wondering if they are benificial or a waste of time.

Like I said, pressing in different planes is defenitly beneficial. I will rotate what planes I work ie...workout 1 chest press, workout 2 overhead BB press, workout 3- NG DB sagital plane press.

Always a provider of good info, P-funk. I agree with you on doing the overheads with DB and a neutral grip. That's what I've been doing lately due to some pain I've had in my right shoulder.

Yeah, I try to do this too. Do chinups with a close grip one day (Shoulder extension) and pullups with a grip wide enough to allow for adduction another, for example.
