how the hell do you do that with a barbell? You hold Dbs in a supinated position and then press up and rotate them to pronated. How can you rotate your hands around when holding a barbell?
Does anyone else do these with a barbell? I have been doing them for about two months now and the results are good. If nothing else it was a good change from traditional dumbell work.

I guess it would be a version of the arnold press. Hold the Barbell in a supinated position and press. There is no pronated position involved. My bad!

That just seems like a lot of stress on your thumbs, eh?![]()

Actually there is none at all! I don't wrap my thumbs.

i don't see the benefit of doing this v. a traditional military press.

oh, like doing RG bench press. I have done RG overhead presses before.

Reverse grip Overhead presses are probably more acurate. I think the benifit is they target the front of your shoulders.

The RG overhead press puts some pressure on my elbows and wrists so I prefer to do the same type of movement with DBs, holding them with a neutral grip and my elbows pointing almost straight forward. it is important to be strong through a variety of planes of motion so either lift will help.

with the amount of work and stress the anterior delts get from pressing movements I have never seen a reason to "isolate" them.
Perhaps. I use them just as a change of pace movement. I was just wondering if they are benificial or a waste of time.

Thanks P-funk.

Always a provider of good info, P-funk.I agree with you on doing the overheads with DB and a neutral grip. That's what I've been doing lately due to some pain I've had in my right shoulder.
From the Ashes....
Yeah, I try to do this too. Do chinups with a close grip one day (Shoulder extension) and pullups with a grip wide enough to allow for adduction another, for example.Originally Posted by P-funk
