If you are not training for pure power then I see no reason to do low reps. Every once and a while if fine but 8-10 is safer and better for building size.
In a normal 5x5 routine you do one core exercise of 5x5 reps per bodypart and then 1 or 2 other exercises using 2x8-10 so for back day you might do
5x5 bent over rows
2x8 pull ups
2x8 seated rows
shoulders could be
5x5 military press
2x10 lateral raises
There are many different variations but thats how i like to do it. It is good for increasing your strength on the core lifts and also for adding a bit of size.
I've traditionally been a 3 sets for ~10 reps kind of trainer. I've read a lot on this forum about 5 sets for 5 reps.
Can this be applied to all your body? Eg bench press, squats, pulldowns etc...
Is this 5x5 more effective is gaining size (im not so concerned with strength) than my usual routine?
Any advice is much appreciated
For bodybuilding I like to stagger my reps. 1 set will be between 6-10 reps, 1 set between 2-5 reps and the last set 11-15 reps and all taken to failure.
