gaining size is not easy for most, unless you're a genetic freak you're not just going to "get big" because you train with weights, we all only wish it was that easy.

your friend is incorrect, weight training is very healthy, maybe he means training with very heavy weights.

Weight training strengthens your body. Your connective tissues become stronger and the density of your bones increases. Also, it helps you maintain muscle well into old age.

With that said, you can get a pretty decent workout using body weight stuff if you do it right:

    Pushups and One Arm Pushups
    Body Rows
    Handstand Pushups
    Pullups and Chinups
Body Squats and One Legged Body Squats
    Reverse Hyperextensions
    Superman Pushups and Superman
    Glute Ham Raises
    Situps
    Crunches
    Etc...
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...

Ehh I think I know what ya mean. You mean the basic 6pack and some nice arms legs and a bit big but not alot? Like a model? If so dont buy a ton of weights but buy some.

The superman push-up is the opposite of that. Instead of curling up, you push down from both ends until you push yourself up as high as you can without sliding your appendages inward. They are a Hell of a lot harder than you might think.
