    classic deadlift

    Is it absolutely necessary to bend ur kness? I feel better doing classic deadlift with my kness straight (my back has always been quite flexible) and my back feels better w/o the knee bends. I never max out or do 1RM with straight knees though . I m still a n00b, so dont know if this would be considered bad form.

    What your describing sounds like two different "classic" lifts..

    Deadlift

    Straight-Leg Deadlift

    I'm new to the deadlifts too, but from what I gather the deadlift will incorporate more muscles, more compound so to speak, and you'll be lifting more weight. While the SLDL is more isoating on the lower back. Not and expert, but I think both exercises are good ones, but the latter, SLDL, could have more potential for injury if the wieght is overdone.

    SLDL stands for 'Stiff-Legged Deadlift' - one should never perform the lift with the knees completely straight. This risks hyperextension (AKA your knees will bend backwards) which, needless to say, is not desirable. Perform this lift with knees slightly bent. It's a great lift and it works the whole posterior chain, perhaps the hamstrings and lower back the most. One of the best compound movements IMO and I use it all the time. Don't just take out the deadlift though. Learn its form properly and you'll probably learn to love the movement. I'd say it's more important for overall strength development than the SLDL.
