Cool [HELP] Shoes , Shoes and more Shoes....

Well, being that i am in need of new shoes, i am lost, there are SO many shoes out there, so many diff types, names, styles..

What does one look for in a good support shoe.. what type of shoe does one get for a gym ? Running shoes?

Perhaps everyone can let me know, preferably men - althought if their is a unisex shoe / mens version women go nuts.

let me know what shoes you have , use, or recommend, pictures would be great too

i just dont want to go dropping $100-$200 on shoes that are nothing but brand name marketing crap.

my main usage for these will be in a gym using machines / free weights and possibly some regular walking.

Most people will recommend a shoe that is very, very flat (as in very short height in sole and heel and not much in the way of arches). I forgot what the name of the shoe is, but I believe P-Funk uses this shoe and Foreman can recommend a good running shoe.

k, i guess for very good for grip / support with a wider base to it, i guess if there is a good arch inside for your foot, and solid ankle support somewhere (B-ball shoes), hitting the mall tonight so going to take a look around, but any other input for sure always wanted , shall PM foreman as well.

Are you trying to lift weights in this shoe, or jog? If you are jogging or running, then running shoes would probably be best, obviously. If you are lifting, then a lot of people swear by Converse All-Stars. You want something with a flat sole and very little cushion.

The last thing you need is an unstable surface from which to press. Considering the shoes support some of the most powerful muscles of the body which will be moving some of the most weight, I'd choose to have as stable of a surface as possible.

The only reason cushion is good in running shoes is because running is basically a series of small leaps. When you land, you need that shock absorption to save your joints.

When you're lifting, you want to transfer as much force into the ground as possible, so that the ground pushes back on you with a force as close to equal as possible. It makes for better efficiency of the force generated as well as a more stable surface.

For lifting, I use Pumas. http://www.abound.co.uk/assets/aboun...P7792AKS05.jpg Something like those. As previously stated- they have VERY flat soles, and are comfortable with minimal cushoning.
For running, i use Nike IMPAX,

I sometimes use the IMPAX for lifting, but the heels are lifted, and the shoe is cushey. both shoes are maybe 60 dollars a piece.

    awsome info,

i dont plan to run so i bought a pair of Nike somethings, no name on them , but they have a very solid bottom and not alot of coushin, the arc external is maybe 1cm at most - they are actually quiet comfy. compared to my old adidas. if i find the name will let you know.

There are what I currently use (for squats/deads), though I'll probably want to get something with more ankle support down the road...

I wear wrestling shoes. The ones I have are similar to this, I think they are the same model from 3 years ago.

I particularly like the flap that covers the strings and the split sole.
