    Training/Diet Questions

    Hi,

I am very new here. I am about 28% BF and am looking to cut and build some LBM. Thanks for the site. I have learned this terminology from the very useful information on here and have just purcahsed the following books in an effort to get the body I want:

    The Abs Diet
Insider's Tell-All Handbook on Weight-training Technique by Stuart McRobert

I see some people work out 3-4 days a week with maybe a couple of cardio days also. How long do you work out for though? Also I see that people are eating 6 small meals a day of very specific foods to provide enough energy for these work outs. Do you still need to stick to these 6 meals a day diets on the days that you are not working out and if so why?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ands

P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but it is a bit of a two pronged training/diet post so it was hard to decide which one to post to.

Yes......5-7 meals a day is best, you don't want to eat huge meals 2-3 times a day because you are more likley to put on fat that way.....so stick to 5-7 meals all the time.

I think lifting weights 3-4 times a week is great plus doing cardio 2-3 times on the days you don't lift.....but ity depends on your goals....if you just want to look good then all you need is 2-3 days of weights...a. good diet and enough cardio to help you get to your goals.
I highly recommend all IronMagLabs supplements!

yes, the food rationing keeps your metabolism burning throughout the day.

a good metaphor is to think of a fire, when you eat 6 smaller meals a day, you keep the fire burning all day at a good rate, whereas if you have 3 large meals for example, you go through periods of beeing stuffed and then starve then stuffed then starve. hope this make sense.

a good book to read is tom venuto burn fat feed muscle, he explains everything in an easy to read way!

Start with a solid diet and a sound resistance training program. From there gradually introduce cardio into your program on an "as need" basis. The whole point of dieting is to try and maintain as much muscle mass as possible to keep your metabolism running healthy and to achieve the lean muscluar body that you are trying to attain. Cardio is overrated. Start with diet.

    Nice one,

Cheers for all the advice guys. I am going to follow the Abs Diet to start of with as it will help me get into the way of eating more regularly as far as I can tell from the blurb/reviews on Amazon and here. I am not looking to get bulked to the point that I will show my body in competitions or anything. I am looking for a good hard fit looking body. Purely cosmetic purposes as I am already carido fit. I think I would probably be looking at doing a 3 day Mon-Wed-Fri work out and then carido Tue/Thur and take it from there adjusting it if I am making little gains. I do cardio Mon-Fri with 15 minutes of heavy weights and 400 crunches Tue-Thur-Sat just now. I would prefer to start concentrating more on the weights. I am neither especially skinny nor fat but I would say that due to my body shape I will probably be a "hard gainer". I am of a farily slender build.

So no one said how long they work out for on an avergae day?

Thanks again for all the replies.

This site has got to have THE best forums for this subject interest.

I have never read it so I don't know what it is about.

Check out the stickies in the diet forum written by Jodi, they are very good. EmmaLeigh has excellent diet advice and if you post your diet she can help to give you some guidance. Plus....this is free!
