    In season circuit training???

I am wondering what peoples thoughts are on circuit training in season for baseball. I'm at a college where there is no real strength coach, so there is no information being givin to the coaches of my team. Right now, we are starting a season and our coach has us doing circuit training which consists of: 2 days a week
    [U]Day 1[U]:
3 stations of chest and 3 stations of triceps in a row with no time in
between. 6 stations of abs and all of this done for a minute
duration. The weight usage, because not everyone can lift the same
amount, is very light and causes no struggle.

    Day 2:
3 stations of legs and 3 stations of biceps in a row with no time in
between. Again 6 stations of abs, and all is done for a minute duration.
Again, the weight is light and almost doesn't feel like a work out at all.

if anyone has any idea if this is good or bad for us, please let me know.
    Thanks

I am no training expert. But Circuit training is fine. Although your workout plan is garbage. Chest isn't much of a useful excercise for baseball. And If I were train for sport specific, I would be training motions rather then bodyparts. Bodyparts tend to lead to imbalances, especially the way this laid out. 3 sets of chest with no back to compensate a muscle imbalance, training like this could likely lead to shoulder instability, and throwing problems. That is my opinion.

Ideally a fullbody Circuit or push/pull circuit would work. None of these are geared towards power though. p-funk hopefully will step in later in break it down better for you.

    Just giving you my $.02

    What position do you play?

My appologies... i forgot to mention on the leg days we do lat pull downs and one arm rows, but that is the only back exercises we do. Do you think this is something to do only twice a week and during a season, or do you think we should be working out more than just twice, and should we be doing this during the season? I am a catcher.

Oh my lord, now I have heard it all. You shouldn't be doing circuit training inseason, you should be increasing/maintaining power/strength. All of your conditioning should be done pre or off season. If I could think of one scenario that would be the absolute worst thing to do aside form no training, it would be what your coach is having you do.

Having said that, I am not going to tell you to do something else unless your coach says it is fine.

BTW, I just passed the CSCS test a month ago, and all of this stuff is covered on the test.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

Thank you very much... that is very helpful. What do you think I should do? Should I try to find a different workout to bring to his attention or what?

also, how do you get info for the CSCS, because I am a junior in college and my major is Health/P.E. I have always been curious about strength coaching, and personal training, and would like to possible further this as a career.

www.nsca-lift.org I think there is a certification web link there. They are big in baseball, football, and just added soccer, that is what they focus on in their sport-specific conferences.

Talk to your coach, tell him you think there is a better option, and if he wants I can hook you guys up. Some coaches aren't up for having someone go over their heads.
