It depends on your genetics and how your calves respond to indirect work. I can't really imagine that your calves wouldn't benefit from direct work though.
Got my squats and deadlifts in and starting to see some definition and growth on the wheels... is it a good idea to do calf work, like on a calf press also .. or will the squats be sufficent to hit those guys too?

I think calf training is great - its something most people ignore; just like forearms. But, it can be what sets you apart from the typical punk at the gym.
Calf training is just like leg training - these muscles are used everyday a whole lot, so you gotta hit them hard and keep hitting them. You may be suprised how much weight you can actually handle for sets of 10 on calf raises. I recommend you use weight though, dont use use bodyweight.

Calf work never really seemed to make much of a difference for me. You should definitely consider it though. My thoughts are that I probably didn't use enough frequency or vary the stimulus enough. Give it a try; it won't hurt.
