Lightbulb Questions on pull ups, e.g. pulldowns vs. pullups

I normally do Pullups. I do 2 sets of bodyweight wide grip pullups (palms facing away) for 12reps. Then the same workout but weighted for 8-10reps. The weight added is 25-45 lbs, whatever I feel like that day. All the pullups are full ROM, full stretch to full contraction. Anyway, when I do pulldowns, its MUCH harder than weighted pullups. Is that normal? Shit, I was struggling today on 160lb pulldowns vs. what I normally do for pullups.

I was reading today about pullups behind the neck. Now I see all the time that shoulder press behind the neck is shitty, as well as, behind the neck pulldowns, but behind the neck pull ups? Same thing?

And I guess one more thing, how many pull ups are too much? Lets say you do 4 sets of wide then 4 sets of chins, is that enough for your lats and bis?

I would not do "behind the neck" pulldowns or presses....Keep adding weight to your pullups....You'll be amazed at how much you can do.

As far as your back program....make sure you add a rowing movement in with your pullups and chins.....

I'm doing pullups as well. However, I would suggest forget about going
unweighted if you can acomplish 8 - 10 reps with a 45 pound plate.

I would focus on mastering 3 sets of 10 using the 45 pound plate.

I stopped going unweighted years ago, and, only go unweighted to
show someone how to do pullups.

As for the Lat machine, it may be your swinging during the pullups
unweighted, why your having difficulty lifting 160 pounds. While
I'm doing lat pulldowns, I can use more weight on the machine,
than I can, using 45 pound plates.

As yellowmoomba mentioned, behind the neck pulldowns is an unatural
movement. I can't think of any movement that requires your shoulders
    to be in that position.

Use weight, and use a narrow grip .... i have never used a wide grip, reduces range of motion. Although integrating both would be the smartest thing
